Date Night

I am just so grateful that I have a husband who loves me and takes me on dates.

Last weekend, he took me to our favorite restaurant, Mikuni for dinner and out to a movie to celebrate the end of tax season. I just love that my husband still is, and always will be, my boyfriend! :)

Thanks again, Whit, for babysitting!

Sutter's Fort

A few weeks ago we went with my family to a "market" type of thing at Sutter's Fort. They had all sorts of displays and of course period memoribilia and clothing to buy. Since Marc and I are going on the Youth Trek this summer as a Ma and Pa, my dad as a Captain, and my two younger siblings attending, we thought it might be a good place to get some ideas and maybe buy some things to wear on the trek. For the trek, you have to dress in the pioneer garb. I went crazy with the pictures. I was in this deep reflection on how simple times were back then, and it was just so cool to me how everyone had their trade, and they were happy to be good at their thing and share with everyone else. I'm sure you had the occasional over acheiver, but for the most part, they all did their part to help and they all chipped in so they could survive and have what they needed.

Um, guy who makes saddles? SaddleGuy? Carpenter
Pretty glad these aren't required on the trek! Represent!

The food looked really good...it made me excited for the food Brother Meyers and his team will cook while on the trek.

Us... Me and Whit...

Tana was so good about wearing her hat to keep her shaded from the sun. She called it her "pretty".

We all tried on some cool hats...

Oooh...scared of them! :) Four of the seven...

Me and Mama....it's rare that she'll pose for a picture, so I have to post it when I can get one. Love her!

Just another day at the park...

Have I ever mentioned she LOVES being outside???

Logan's Senior Ball

My little brother Logan had his Senior Ball on the 19th, and like any good big sister and brother in law, we went to see them and take pictures! :) At first when Logan told me he and his girlfriend Sam picked yellow as an accent color to her black dress, and his black tux, I was afraid they may look a bit bee-ish...however, how could anything make these two look bad? They looked adorable, and the yellow actually turned out to look very nice! Cute couple! I miss getting all dressed up and going to dances like this!

It's All Fun and Games, Until Stacy Gets Hurt!

Okay, so I'm a little embarrased to tell this story, but it'll definitely make for a good blog! (And even though I hate to say it, probably a few laughs.) So, Sunday evening we stopped by my parents house to drop some stuff off, and Marc of course, wanted to ride David's motorcycle. So, we stopped there for a little bit, and before we left, my brothers pulled out their little pocket bike. It's like a mini real motorcycle...that looks like a clown bike. So everyone started riding it, and its so funny! Here's a video of Marc riding it. BEWARE, the bike is SUPER loud, so you may want to turn your volume down a smidge.

So yeah, totally all fun and games! My brother David rode all around on it...my 14 year old sister even rode around on it. All the while everyone's telling me I should try it. They are telling me how much better the bike will fit me since I'm shorter. So in a split second decision, I decide I'll jump on it and ride it a few yards...just to see how it works. I hop on it, barely listening to the "this is the gas...this is the brake" discussion...and I get going, until I'm in front of the neighbors house, barely having a moment to remotely enjoy this "fun" experience...the bike and I are shaking like crazy, and I'm veering to the curb. Apparently everyone was yelling at me, instructions on what to do, and what I was doing wrong, but if you watched the above video, you can tell, that you can't hear a thing when that motor is running. Apparently, I had my legs wrong on the bike, I had my knees inside my arms, kind of like my arms wrapped around my legs, wheras you are supposed to ride with your knees out to the side, so you can put your feet down and catch yourself to stop. So, there was one of my problems, and another small error on my part...I confused the gas and the brake. Minor detail. haha...so...all the sudden, I'm falling off the bike, but my stupid left hand won't listen to me, and I was holding the handle bar still as its dragging me to the asphault. Finally, I let go, and am in a stage of shock that I just did something that stupid. As I sobbed from shock in the bathroom, and as I sat over the tub with my mom rinsing my legs off, I definitely had a humbling, "I can't act like a 12 year old", moment. Took me back to the days of falling off my bike, and my mom rinsing my wounds in the tub. (Thanks Mom! Love you!) Now with banged up knees, bruises on my arms, hips, sides, and a rock gauge in my hand, I'm for sure regretful of my lapse of good judgment. Not to mention, I never realized how many times a day I kneel down...praying, changing diapers, bathing the baby, cleaning things up, getting in and out of my bed. It for sure has made me weary of my running, which is a major bummer. I'm going to try that one in the morning and see how I do.
Below are some pictures of the damage...and some "emotion shots" Marc got of me as I bandaged my wounds. Did I mention I was wearing shorts??? My outfit got a little roughed up...ripped some holes in my nice shorts.

This last one is of my knee today. It's definitely bubbled up and bruised some more. There's a big knot on the side of my knee that wasn't there yesterday.

Guess I won't be as excited for the warm weather as I thought...not so cute to put some heels and a skirt when you've got a shiner like this two feet up. :) I also REALLY learned my lesson on keeping the Sabbath Day Holy! Definitely not a Sunday activity! As my friend Rachel mentioned in a recent post on her blog, I will second that I guess sometimes we just can't do what the boys (or our very athletic younger sister) can do. Lesson learned.

Our Little Bruiser

At this stage of Montana's life, I feel like I'm constantly bandaging a cut, or icing a sliced lip. Nine times out of ten, the bumps and falls don't even phase her, but there is that rare occasion that the blood flows and or the bruises swell. Pictured below is one such occasion...
Our little rascal was running around playing outside as usual...she LOVES being outside. She was running around in her usual way, like a little pixie on the tips of her toes, and tripped and hit her eye on a plastic wagon. Presenting, Montana's first (and hopefully last) black eye...

She also fell the day before and cut her chin, as pictured above as well.

Music Makes Her World Go 'Round

Of course, being the music lover that I am...this post brings me great joy and pride! Our little girl is a music lover...and naturally, not by force! :) I have been amazed that even since she was an infant, she has responded so much to music. Through her Baby Einstein videos, me singing in the mornings, or the music at church, she always seemed to perk up and listen.
Now, she's joining in with her own musical talents. She loves to sing, dance and "pay" (as she says it) the piano...and now, courtesy of Uncle Logan, the drums! :) Enjoy!

Momma's Little Helper

Montana was quite the helper this weekend! She tried her hand at cooking and cleaning. Here is she doing a little sweeping action Saturday morning to help Mommy clean the kitchen...

And then Sunday morning, she INSISTED we make dozens of her favorite chocolate chip cookies, and since it was HER IDEA...I of course inlisted her help! (Don't worry...she really didn't get any cookie dough. A small lick of the spatula, and I took it away...I know some of you momma's are worrying about the raw egg.)

The Temple, A Prophet and Gerber Daisy's

This past week has provided many amazing inspirational opportunities for me. Friday night we were able to attend the temple with Rachel and Trent. It has been a few months, and it just made me realize that even though we have a baby now, we really need to make more time to attend the temple. I had a very spiritual experience and a very real and true answer to prayer on something I had been pondering and fasting about. I am grateful for the opportunity to have a temple so close so that I am able to have a haven from the world, to be so close to God and be able to focus fully on the Gospel and keeping an eternal perspective.

I had also read an article in the Ensign this month about getting answers to prayers out of General Conference, and so I as well had that thought in my mind as I watched conference, and received many answers and confirmations from this conference. It was such an awesome experience to be able to sustain the prophet, Thomas S. Monson, and know with a firm confirmation from the Spirit, through my own sustaining vote, and through the testimonies of the Lord's apostles, that he is a true prophet, called of God.
Lastly, I wanted to share my own personal adaptation of inspiration, that I pulled from a small, seemingly insignificant experience I had, that proved to be very symbolic and inspirational to me. Early last week, a woman in my ward had brought me a beautiful orange/reddish gerber daisy plant and left it on my door step. There were five flowers; one in full bloom, one that was beginning to bloom, and three buds. I was excited about it, and put it in the center of my island in my kitchen. However, my week got busy, and I kind of forgot about it. Bills and papers crowded around it on the island, and by the weekend, it had not been touched since the day I received it. And honestly, I didn't even think twice about it. I'm definitely not someone with a green thumb. I have not really tried, to be honest. I planted a strawberry plant in the backyard last year, half expecting it to grow on its own, with the occassional watering from the sprinklers. Needless to say, I haven't seen one berry from the plant. Another example of this, is when Marc brings me flowers, I usually put them on the counter in the vase, and enjoy them on the counter, until they wilt and die. I hardly ever put more water in them, let alone the little packet of "flower food" provided. I guess, again, I just knew cut flowers died, and didn't put much thought into prolonging their life and beauty.
So, anyway, back to the Gerber Daisy's...Saturday came, and I was cleaning the house. I came to my plant on the counter, and noticed that the one flower that was in full bloom upon arriving to my house, was completely wilted and bent over. I grabbed the stem and it flopped around, as flimsy as could be. The other flowers had not made any progress in coming out of their buds, and looked just as wilted. For a moment I thought, "Great...I ruined this one too. Oh well." But, I decided I should water them and see if that made a difference. With my little knowledge of plants, I figured it would make some difference, but I didn't know what, and I thought for sure I had lost the big flower. I continued on cleaning my house, and about an hour later, as I passed the daisy's, I was astonished to find the big flower standing straight up, the second one now fully emerged from the bud, and the stems hard and strong. I pinched the stem of the bigger flower to see if I could flop it from side to side, as I had earlier, and it was strong enough that the pressure would have snapped it. I don't even know if it makes "gardening" sense for it to work that fast, but it taught me an amazing lesson about small efforts in cultivating things in our lives. I immediately related it to a number of things; my testimony, my marriage, my friendships...anything that you feel like could be lacking in an area, and even wilting and dying. It gave me the inspiration to take a second look, and make even the smallest effort and gesture to cultivate and nourish those areas in my life where I am neglecting to put forth the effort necessary to keep it alive. It always seems easier to give up, and say, "It's too late...it's dead or ruined". But, to me, this experience has shown me that it's not too late, and if I give up so easily and so quickly, then I'm going to miss out on some of the most beautiful things and experiences in life, that Heavenly Father has meant for me to have...like Gerber Daisy's.

Montana's New Friend

We were finally able to get together as a group with our friends the Lindsey's, with the Barkers. We went to Mikuni for sushi and it was so fun. One of the best parts about getting together (besides making all the plans for Santa Cruz trips and shopping days), was Montana making a new friend in Kami Lindsey, Sam and Eric's beautiful daughter, who is about three weeks older than Montana. She is absolutely adorable with the sweetest personality. I was amazed at how smart she is and all of her sign language and songs. Good job, Sam and Eric. She's beautiful! Not to mention tan...I thought Montana had a pretty olive complexion until she stood next to Kami! Here are some pictures of the girls playing. They loved giving each other kisses, but after many try's, with many different cameras, the kisses proved too quick for our flashes. So this is the best we got, but trust me, it was cute! Also, they had fun playing the piano back at our house. Thanks Lindsey's and Barkers...we're excited for even more fun times to come!
