Weight is a sensitive subject. It's always been for me, and I think pretty much can be for everyone. I always thought if you were really skinny, you didn't worry about weight until I had a very, very naturally thin friend who couldn't gain weight. She really has a hard time with being called "skinny" or people thinking she has an eating disorder when she doesn't, and I've realized that all around, weight is something that people of all shapes and sizes struggle with. Now, when I think the words "can't gain weight", there's a big part of me that wants to say, "Wow, wish I had that problem." But, I have learned. I have learned you pretty much, just don't say anything unless its a compliment, about someone else's weight or figure.
How many times have you heard someone say (or have had it said to you, or said it YOURSELF) something about a pregnant woman's size? "You look like you're about ready to pop!" "You must be due any second." "You've GOT to be having twins!" Or, on the flip side, "You're baby is going to be unhealthy, you are too small and must not be eating enough." (Okay, that's the only one I can think of on that flip side, but you get the idea.) I personally said something one time that I can remember when I was fifteen...I asked a friends mom when she was due, and she had already had her baby, like a month or two earlier.
Yeah, embarrassing...for both of us.
But also, I had someone ask me when I was due, when I had my three week old sitting in her car seat in the shopping cart that I was PUSHING!!! Like, hello...I may LOOK pregnant still, but be a little more observant and THINK before you comment. My baby is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!
Wow, that obviously STILL brings up emotions. ha ha
I've heard over and over, "Everyone's body is different." But, no matter how much truth there is to that statement, we all compare ourselves and eachother. And comparing, is what drives our weight comments and gets people in to trouble, and hurts people's feelings.
The driving force of this post for me, is more funny than serious. Which I'll explain in a second. However, weight is a very serious issue for a lot of people. Something that consumes peoples thoughts; effects their everyday lives. I've been the victim of weight comments that have crippled me...but have also been the beneficiary of compliments that have sent me soaring on cloud nine for days! What we say to other's about it, is THAT effective. I don't care who you are, or what you look like.
Sometimes its hard to know. Sometimes you think you are complimenting someone and, well there are some people out there (me) who are super sensitive, and sometimes take things the wrong way. You can't always know how people are going to react. But ultimately, I think a good rule of thumb, not just with weight, but with ANY comment, is to wait and second and think about how your comment might sound, and how that person might feel about it, before you say it. And if there is any doubt it might come out wrong, or hurt their feelings, chances are, they are much better off having not heard a comment at all.
K, now to the reason I even had this subject on my mind. So, I'm at the grocery store picking up some stuff for my Young Women activity. I had Montana with me, and since we were only picking up a few things, I didn't have a cart, and she was just walking with me and holding my hand. We were going to the self check-out line, since I only had a few items...
(Side note...that was the FIRST time that stupid machine hasn't given me problems. Probably because I only had like three items. I get so mad when she flips out on me for bagging or not bagging my dang item. Seriously, on shopping trips where you have more than a few items, totally not worth your time. Marc has made it his challenge though to beat the machine, and has prided himself in making it through the Self Check-Out Nazi with more than a few items and without any "bagging comments" from her. ha ha).
Anyway, so on our way to the check out, this other little girl runs over to Montana and says, "Hi." So her mother and I just kind of let them interract for a second. I told her mother how beautiful her little girl was (because she really was! She was the cutest little african american girl, with the most adorable braids in her hair). She said, "Thank you!", very proudly. "Okay, okay," I tell myself, "she doesn't have to say it back to you about Tana just because you said it. You already know Montana is cute. You're so sensitive!"
We ask each other the age of our daughters...her's is two. So five months older than Montana. She was a petite little thing. But then the mother proceeded to say, "Wow. She is a big girl for her age. How much does she weigh?" Okay, to me...it was like telling ME that I was a big girl and asking me how much I weighed! This again, could just be me being overly sensitive, but the more I talk to friends, I don't think anyone likes it when people make comments about their kids being big. PLUS, I'm so confused because I've heard the exact opposite from other people that she is small for her age.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter, but I just had to laugh at myself, because I got in the car and was driving away thinking about it and about how I felt just as offended as if someone had asked me how much I weighed, surprised at how "big" I was for my age. I KNOW I was being overly sensitive to it, but it just really got me thinking about what we say to others and how it affects us.
So, I feel like I learned a lesson in thinking before speaking and being more aware of what I say and how it will affect someone else.

I don't know if any of you watch So You Think You Can Dance on Fox. I have been the last couple of years, but I haven't really gotten into it much this season. I've watched an episode here and there, but haven't gotten sucked in yet. Well, last night I was totally sucked in by Chelsea and Mark's lyrical hip-hop number to Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love". I already LOVE that song, but the emotion in this choreography is phenomenal. I seriously almost cry watching it. Check it out...I dare you not to get a little choked up!

Wish I could dance like that! Skills!!!!

Bad Mom...(and my 100th post...how special)
***Disclaimer…I know I am not a bad mom. I am a great mom. I’d do anything for my baby, and pretty much do. She’s definitely loved and cared for, but I think every mom (especially young mom’s with their first child) go through a time when they say… “I’m a bad mom”…even though we know we aren’t. I am learning…but I thought I’d share, because, for me, that’s part of the learning process. Comments and advice welcome…but no need to tell me I’m not a bad mom. I truly know this!:) ***
It is one o’clock in the afternoon; I haven’t showered, I haven’t bathed my baby. At about eleven I finally thought to brush my teeth. When Montana woke up this morning, I let her play in crib for like twenty minutes while I finished balancing the checkbook, only to get her up, give her a little bit of lovin’, and then sit her down with a “faffle” (waffle) to be baby sat by a mouse, a Mexican handy man and a bunch of little kids in a rocket ship (Mickey Mouse Club House, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins) while I packed. Okay, okay…and blogged. I know you can see the time stamp on my last six blogs.
Hey, at least I got her dressed for the day…sort of. That’s more than I can say for myself thus far.
After she tired of television, we turned on some Justin Timberlake and “Rocked Our Bodies” while Mommy pretended to play with her, but sneaking in some packing in between dance moves. I fed her some lunch and then put her down for a nap. And then I packed. And packed. And packed. I had to take a break to do something, and since pretty much the only conversation I’ve had today is with a 19 month old, I thought I’d blog….my uh, seventh or eighth post of the day…about how I feel like a bad mom. I know I’m not, I just feel like it at the moment. And because I feel like that, of course I can bring to reference a few recent examples…
*She ate a whole Milky Way leaving Target on Saturday. The idea was to give her a bite, so that she’d stop freaking out because the checker was taking all of our stuff (she thinks the check out stand people are taking her stuff, since its in her cart. This is the scenario at EVERY store, EVERY time…freaks out), so we bought a Milky Way and I go to give her a bite. No, no…she’s nineteen months, she can do EVERTHING by herself. So I then realize now to take the Milky Way away, I would have made her fit that much worse. By the time we get to the car she’s already a chocolatey mess, mixed with the 100 degree weather, and it’s pretty much gone. So I left her to suck on the wrapper. In Marc’s defense, he was there, but he was angry about the situation. Bad Mom Move.
*She got a small sunburn on her back…I rubbed a massive amount of sunburn on her back the other day when she was swimming, but I missed some spots right around her straps, because I didn’t pull the straps down to lather. Every good mom knows to pull the straps down first to apply sunscreen. Well, I know now. Bad Mom Move.
*I JUST realized, she’s close to 20 months, and I haven’t taken her in for her 18month check up and immunizations. I had taken her because she was sick like two weeks before she turned 18 months, so I know she is okay, but still…I feel like a slacker because I completely forgot until I read a friends blog who just took their baby for a check up. Bad Mom Move.
*She burned her leg on my flat iron yesterday. I was getting her ready for church and put her up on the counter to do her hair, in my bathroom. My younger sister was over because she wanted to go to our ward and go to Marc’s Sunday School class, so she was getting ready in the other bathroom. I am ALWAYS super careful with what she has in her reach, and I noticed that the curling iron was in reaching distance, out of the corner of my eye, but I hadn’t used it, so I didn’t move it. She reached over, and I could see that she was grabbing it and saying “Hot!” in an informative tone…not a painful one. I said, “Yes, hot…don’t touch”, because even though it wasn’t hot, I want her to think it is, so that she doesn’t touch it when it is. I hadn’t realized that Whitney had brought my flat iron back in that she had borrowed and set it down there next to the curling iron. Then all the sudden she says, “Hot! Hot!" (not informatively, but painfully) and starts to cry, and I realized she had pulled the flat iron down into the sink where her feet were, and I pulled it out only to see that she had a burn on her ankle. Stupid. Bad Mom Move.
Ultimately, she’s loved, safe, happy, and healthy….and I feel good about my efforts. This week has been very crazy with getting ready to move this weekend, and so I know when we get into a better routine, I will feel less hair brained, but for now, I guess I just thought I’d put it out there that this week, I think pulled a few Bad Mom Moves.

Some Fun Videos
I have been meaning to do posts for these videos, but with getting ready for the move, and packing, I haven't had time. So instead of doing a number of little posts, I'll just do a video post.
Montana's new favorite past time, now that we are home all day, is to swim. She loves to splash. Definitely a water baby.
People always say that little girls are born with that mothering instinct. I have proof on video. Here is montana diapering her little lamby. In the first video, she had just layed the lamb down and is getting the wipes that are on the ottoman. If you listen closely you can hear her say, "Just a minute"...and hold her finger up. This is sometimes what I do when I don't prepare myself and have to run to get wipes, and I tell her, "Just a minute."
The second video, she is diapering the baby, and then goes to get something else out of her room, and again tells her lamb, "just a minute". It was absloutely hilarious to watch!
Montana counts to nine. Most of the time she skips six, but other than that, she's got it down pat. This particular car ride, she had already done it numerous times and was tiring of the game, so we had to prompt her. It's not the best she's done, but its what we caught on video. She says three and four really fast, so you have to listen closely. And then of course, skips six. I'm going to try and get a better video in the future, but here is our smarty pants for now...
Last video here is Montana singing one of her favorite songs. Sorry about the shot being so off. I wasn't looking back because I was sitting at a light and I was just pointing my phone into the back seat.
We love our little movie star!

Bounceopolis
Again, no pictures of us, because we were focued on the kids! Sara...throughout the four years of our friendship, I just have to say, we have really stunk at taking pictures together. We'll have to work on that.
After Bounceopolis we had lunch at LaBou and just talked. It was really good to catch up with Sara. We miss her and are very glad to have her and Ryder in our lives.

Eating Dirt and Worms!
On Friday we met up with my sister Courtney and her kids, and my friend Jessica and her son Dax to celebrate Jessica's 25th birthday. We had a nice lunch at Mimi's cafe, where the kids got to enjoy their dessert of "Worms in Dirt".

A Visit with Aunt Meg and Ellee
Marc's sister Meggin and her family came up from Tulare this week, and Meggin and Ellee spent an afternoon with us. After having dinner at Panera, we went to the Elk Grove Park to feed the ducks. The ducks weren't as aggressive as in times past, so I was grateful for that. Montana really got the idea of feeding the ducks this time, and not eating the bread herself. The only thing is that she kept wanting to feed it straight to the ducks...but, in fear of my child losing fingers, we taught her to throw it. Here are a few pictures from our day...

Montana's First Hair Cut
But Miss Trang soon pulled out bubbles, which she loves, and we distracted her.
Soon, we even pulled the pacifier out and she blew bubbles herself.
She got better and better as the haircut went on, and was really good while Miss Trang trimmed her bangs.
A blow dry and the finished product...
